Fred Hill Elementary

Fred Hill Elementary School in Little Elm, Texas, showcases a modern, high-performance approach to K–12 design. Created by Pfluger Architects and built by Balfour Beatty, the school reflects Denton ISD’s next-generation learning model, centered on flexible, connected spaces instead of traditional classroom wings.

A defining feature of the building is its use of King Klinker’s King Crimson thin brick, paired with Black Beauty brick at the base. Installed in a vertical one-third running bond and manufactured in the elongated American Imperial size, the brick creates striking vertical movement across the façade—an effect impossible with standard modular brick.

Constructed using 134 prefabricated wall panels by BakerTriangle Prefab, the building envelope was installed in just 20 working days, achieving approximately 70% time savings over conventional construction.

Recognized for its innovative material use and standout design, Fred Hill Elementary was awarded the Bronze Award in the 2025 Brick in Architecture Awards.
